Lukashenko confirms shipment of Belarusian potash to USA

BARANOVICHI DISTRICT, 11 September (BelTA) – On 11 September, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko spoke to journalists about the supply of Belarusian potash fertilizers to the United States, BelTA has learned.

“We are currently loading potash, selling it to the United States of America,” the president said.

Speaking about the readiness to maintain a dialogue with the USA on various topics, Aleksandr Lukashenko mentioned the potash sector, among other things: “If you want to purchase our potash fertilizers, go ahead. We cannot deliver [large volumes] all at once. But some volume has just become available. We have already secured contracts for this year, and we will consider next year. Right now, an opportunity has arisen to load a vessel, and we will definitely finish loading tomorrow, so that they can take it”

“But settle the debt first. Around $43–44 million of our funds is frozen in Citibank – the company we partnered with had already made the payment. It got stuck in wealthy America. Please give that money back,” the president said.

“The government has submitted a written report to me [on the situation with the stranded funds]. Give the money back! This is a disgrace for the USA. Only after that will we negotiate with you on more serious matters,” the president stated.
