Lukashenko concerned over Belarus-China trade imbalance

MINSK, 18 April (BelTA) - Belarus is concerned over the imbalance in the bilateral trade with China, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhang Dejiang, BelTA has learned.

“I am very concerned, and you have probably noticed this, over the imbalance in our bilateral trade. I would like to ask you to pay serious attention to this issue within the framework of the Belarusian-Chinese intergovernmental committee for cooperation, and at the level of the heads of government of the two countries, MPs,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The head of state suggested talking over the development of the Belarusian-Chinese cooperation in the economic, trade, investment and financial sectors. In particular, the parties discussed the ways of attracting investors to the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park Great Stone, and also the interaction in the banking sector.

Alexander Lukashenko added that the speakers of the National Assembly of Belarus and the head of the Chinese parliament were expected to discuss a number of issues that are of primary importance to Belarus. “On the other hand, these will be image-boosting projects for the People’s Republic of China in the center of Europe. If you decide to support us, the Belarusian people will never forget this and will be very grateful to you,” the President said.
