Lukashenko calls for harshest punishment for tax evasion

Lukashenko calls for harshest punishment for tax evasion

MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) – Punishment for tax evasion should be the harshest, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he hosted a meeting with the Council of Ministers on 21 January, BelTA has learned.

“The overriding task for us all is to harden our stance against tax evasion. We need to model our laws on those applied in the United States. Let's follow in their footsteps. No one will criticize us for that as we we will follow the example of the bastion of democracy. They have tough tax regulation and punish harshly for non-payment of taxes. In our country we have entire sectors in shadows, and we seem to be ok with that,” the president said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also spoke about salaries in envelopes. Such violations should also be punished seriously, he stressed.

"This is subject to immediate action,” the head of state said.
