MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) – The Belarusian model has proven effective, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said when speaking at a solemn meeting on the occasion of the Independence Day of Belarus on 1 July, BelTA has learned.

“The Belarusian model has proven effective. We have built a solid social, economic and legal basis for our sovereignty,” the head of state noted.

Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that in difficult times, it is important to pull together and work towards progress. “You and you only have the right to hold the President accountable, because it is you who elected me, and nobody else. But before holding me or authorities accountable, look at yourself and answer the question whether you have done everything you can to keep this piece of land at least in the shape it is now, whether you have done everything to make sure this piece of land, where our children will live, would not be left to someone's mercy and would always remain sovereign and independent,” the President stressed.

He drew attention to the fact that Belarus has something to be proud of, and thanked the millions of Belarusian citizens who give their homeland their strength and talents.
