Lithuania invited to take part in Belarus’ logistics projects

MINSK, 9 June (BelTA) – Belarus suggests Lithuania to take part in the implementation of logistics projects, Director of the Belarusian National Agency of Investment and Privatization Natalia Nikandrova said at the 11th Belarusian-Lithuanian Economic Forum on 9 June, BelTA has learned.

In her words, the economic ties between Belarus and Lithuania are strong enough despite all the difficulties. In particular, there are nearly 600 companies with the Lithuanian participation in Belarus. According to Natalia Nikandrova, the existing potential between the two parties are still untapped. In this respect close interaction during the forum may give an additional impetus for new cooperation areas.

“We are a transit country: roads that go from Europe to Russia, from the Baltic states to the Black Sea go via Belarus. Belarus may be turned into a so-called logistic hub for Lithuania,” said Natalia Nikandrova.

The National Agency of Investment and Privatization is ready to offer projects to those who are interested in the development of logistics services. “There are two logistics projects that will be implemented in cooperation with private business. Both the logistics hubs are located on the M1 motorway,” the director of the agency said.

In her words, Belarus’ participation in the Eurasian Economic Union opens new prospects for cooperation of the two countries. Opening business in Belarus the investor gets access to the 175-million market.

“The business community should display an active attitude in searching for advantageous areas of partnership between our countries,” Natalia Nikandrova stressed. “We expect proposals on cooperation. We are open and ready for it,” she added. According to the director of the National Agency of Investment and Privatization, the Belarusian side is ready to consider any proposals and do its best for successful implementation of these projects in Belarus.

The 11th Belarusian-Lithuanian Economic Forum is held in the city of Marijampole (Lithuania) on 8-10 June. The forum discusses the trade, economic and investment cooperation between Belarus and Lithuania, including cooperation in the field of transport, transit and logistics, financial markets and banking, agriculture and food industry.

The forum was organized by the Belarusian Economy Ministry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Belarus in Lithuania, relevant government bodies jointly with the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists, Lithuanian Business Council for Economic and Commercial Cooperation with Belarus, business associations, and the Embassy of Lithuania in Belarus.
