Krutoi: Agriculture is a pillar of Belarus’ economic stability

KLIMOVICHI, 16 November (BelTA) – Agriculture is one of the pillars of stability of the Belarusian economy, Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi said at the Dazhynki 2024 harvest festival in Klimovichi on 16 November, BelTA has learned.

In his speech today, the president described the whole history of modern Belarusian agriculture from the 1990s to the present day so well that there was nothing else to add, Dmitry Krutoi said. “You can see very well what processes and transformations are taking place in agriculture: mergence, mechanization, automation. They have made it possible to achieve better results both in terms of yields and productivity,” he added.

According to Dmitry Krutoi, despite the harsh conditions of this year, Belarusian farmers have achieved excellent results in grain crops and sugar beet. “The year is not over yet, but we can already say that we will have record figures in dairy farming. The agricultural sector has generated $8.5 billion in exports this year. This is indeed one of the pillars of sustainability,” the head of the Belarus President Administration said.

He noted: "Taking into account processing, which account for about 15% of industrial production, the total contribution of the agricultural sector to the economy reaches 20%. This is not taking into account related industries, of which there are many. These include mechanical engineering, petrochemical complex, fertilizer production, which all work for the agricultural industry. Therefore, this is one of the key sectors of our economy."

Dmitry Krutoi emphasized that great attention paid to agriculture in Belarus is justified. "This is stability, and not only in terms of overall gross indicators but also in terms of the spatial and production distribution of the productive forces of our country," he said.

Dmitry Krutoi welcomed new technologies such precision farming and new crops. "I think that this industry has a very good future. The figures that the head of state announced today will become programme figures," the head of the Presidential Administration concluded.
