PETRIKOV DISTRICT, 24 May (BelTA) – The use of local fuels allows Belarus to replace 3 billion cubic meters of natural gas, Deputy Chairman of the State Standardization Committee of Belarus, Director of the Energy Efficiency Department Vitaly Kretsky told journalists, BelTA reports.
Vitaly Kretsky noted that over 7,000 out of more than 11,000 energy sources in the country have been converted to work on local fuels. Since 2010, 350 boiler houses powered by natural gas have also been converted to local fuels.
“In terms of capacity, this is comparable to one unit of a nuclear power plant. The use of local fuels allows us to replace 3 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually (we consume 17 billion per year). There is still untapped potential. The share of local fuels exceeds 70% in 40 districts already. But we are going to take it up a notch. Over the next five years, we are set to convert at least 125 boiler houses exclusively to pellets,” said the director of the Energy Efficiency Department.
