Japan’s Hakodate hosts Belarus-Hokkaido forum

MINSK, 9 November (BelTA) – The Belarus-Hokkaido forum took place in the Japanese city of Hakodate on 9 November, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in Japan.

The event was held with the support of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ostrovets and Mstislavl district executive committees, the National Agency of Investment and Privatization, the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and also the Hokkaido Prefecture Administration, Hakodate and Noboribetsu city authorities, regional chambers of commerce and public organizations.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Japan Ruslan Yesin mentioned the almost two-century ties between Belarus and Hokkaido Prefecture and positive interaction between the Belarusian and Japanese biathlon federations, the cities of Ostrovets and Hakodate, Mstislavl and Noboribetsu in his welcome speech to the forum participants.

In his address Hokkaido Prefecture Governor Naomichi Suzuki expressed hope that the forum would contribute to further development of the friendly dialogue between Belarus and Hokkaido.

The Japanese businessmen got familiar with the presentation of Ostrovets District, commercial and investment proposals in woodworking, food, light and jewelry industries, the video address of the National Agency of Investment and Privatization and information about the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The event included the exposition of the Belarusian producers of alcohol, textile and linen products.

The forum was preceded by meetings with Hakodate Mayor Toshiki Kudo, and Member of the House of Representatives of the Japanese Parliament Osaka Seiji.
