Japan interested in Belarusian radiation medicine solutions

VIENNA, 28 September (BelTA) – Japan is interested in Belarusian radiation medicine solutions, Alexander Rozhko, Director of the Research Center of Radiation Medicine and Human Ecology, told reporters on the sidelines of the 60th regular session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna, BelTA has learned.

“We closely cooperate with Japan, exchange best practices and academic delegations. Two our specialists will go to Japan in the near future. We hosted a Japanese delegation some six months ago. The Japanese colleagues studied our achievements in radiation medicine. Medicine should be transnational, without any borders, and we are ready to share our solutions,” Alexander Rozhko said.

One of the key cooperation areas is the provision of assistance to Japan with the organization of medical examinations for the population to identify those who need further medical oversight.

Apart from Japan, Belarus maintains strong ties with France, Norway, the United States and other countries. “Belarus’ experience in radiation medicine is unique and is in high demand internationally,” Alexander Rozhko stressed.

Radiation medicine is one of the key topics of the 60th regular session of the IAEA General Conference. Radiation medicine plays a major role in the diagnosis of a wide range of diseases and their treatment, from prevention to palliative care. However, many countries have restricted access to high-quality radiation medicine solutions. A Belarusian delegation is attending the scientific forum Nuclear Technology for the Sustainable Development Goals on 28 and 29 September. The forum aims to stimulate a discussion of scientific and technical matters related to the activities of the IAEA. Among other things, the forum will consider the accessibility of radiation medicine in different parts of the world.
