IT share in Belarus’ GDP expected to reach 10% by 2023

MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – The share of the information technology sector in Belarus’ GDP may rise up to 10% in 2022-2023, BelTA learned from Belarusian Economy Minister Dmitry Krutoi on 19 February.

According to the source, considering that the IT sector gained nearly four percentage points over the course of seven years, it is feasible for the share of the IT sector in Belarus’ GDP to reach 10% but some time in 2022-2023.

Dmitry Krutoi specified that right now the IT sector accounts for 5.5% of Belarus’ GDP.

BelTA reported earlier that the Digital Economy Development Ordinance came into force on 28 March 2018. The document offered unprecedented conditions for the development of the IT industry and gave a serious competitive edge to Belarus in creating a digital economy. As of late 2018 Belarus’ Hi-Tech Park was home to nearly 500 companies.
