IFC to continue to provide financial, consulting support to Belarus

MINSK, 29 September (BelTA) – The International Finance Corporation (IFC) will continue to provide financial and consulting support to Belarus, Rufat Alimardanov, the IFC’s regional head for Belarus and Ukraine, said at the forum Broadening the Horizons: Investment, Finance, Development in Minsk on 29 September, BelTA has learned.

Rufat Alimardanov said that the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and green economy projects are priority areas for attracting finance. “We are ready to support the measures adopted by the Belarusian government to promote entrepreneurship in general and to support SMEs in particular,” he noted. The IFC’s regional head for Belarus and Ukraine pointed out that one needs just a minimum set of documents and three days to open a business in Belarus. He said that this favorably influences the country’s investment climate.

IFC directly finances industry and services projects in Belarus. Over $200 million of long-term financing has been poured into 26 projects in different sectors of the country’s economy. The company also grants assistance through partner banks which have been given more than $470 million. Besides, IFC provides consulting services to Belarus. “We are confident in Belarus’ potential, and will continue to invest in this country and provide it with financial and consulting support,” Rufat Alimardanov said.
