IAEA pleased with personnel training in Belarusian nuclear power plant’s education, training center

MINSK, 11 July (BelTA) – A team of IAEA experts specializing in consultations in the area of human resources development for nuclear power plants and reviewing curricula has finished working at the education and training center of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, BelTA learned from representatives of the Information and Public Relations Department of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant.

The IAEA experts were busy studying how the Belarusian nuclear power plant personnel are educated and trained. An open discussion with specialists employed by the Belarusian nuclear power plant, perusal of the textbooks, a look at how operators are trained using a full-scale control room simulator allowed the IAEA experts to positively evaluate personnel training efforts of the education and training center at this stage of the nuclear power plant construction.

Drawing from personal experience and relying on IAEA guidelines, the experts prepared a number of proposals to further improve the Belarusian nuclear power plant’s personnel training system.

The positive practices the IAEA experts have offered will be taken into account for the sake of ensuring high international personnel qualification standards.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is built using the Russian nuclear power plant design AES-2006 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The power plant will have two power-generating units, with each able to generate 1,200MW of electricity. The first unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
