Grodno Airport hopes to lure European low-cost airlines

MINSK, 27 June (BelTA) – Talks are underway to discuss a possibility for European low-cost airlines to fly to the Grodno Airport, Deputy Transport and Communications Minister Aleksei Lyakhnovich told reporters on 27 June, BelTA has learned.

“We would like foreign budget airlines to fly to the Grodno Airport. The Belaeronavigatsia company that operates the airport is holding talks now,” Aleksei Lyakhnovich informed. He emphasized that he means European low-cost airlines, like AirBaltic, for example. Talks are underway not only with low-cost carriers. “There is a protocol of intentions, some documents have been signed, including with Polish companies,” Aleksei Lyakhnovich added.

All Belarusian airports have charted development strategies. The Brest Airport focuses on the Polish market. “Apart from that, we are considering flights to Russia, including Moscow, Saint Petersburg and some other cities,” he informed. Aleksei Lyakhnovich noted that all the airports based in the oblast capitals operate charter flights. In 2017 they handled 75,000 passengers, this year the figure is expected to increase to 100,000.
