Grain harvest projected at 9m tonnes in Belarus in 2019

Grain harvest projected at 9m tonnes in Belarus in 2019

MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – We are planning to harvest at least 9 million tonnes of grain in 2019, Belarus’ Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Vladimir Grakun said during the 3rd international forum “Agriculture in Belarus” on 26 February, BelTA has learned.

“As for the volume, we are set to harvest at least 9 million tonnes of grain, 5 million tonnes of sugar beet, 1.2 million tonnes of potatoes. The harvest of vegetables and fruit is expected at the level of 2018. We will produce fodder enough to last for one and a half years. We have everything necessary to achieve these goals. The most important thing is to do everything right technologically: to prepare soil, apply mineral and organic fertilizers, to conduct timely planting and timely harvesting campaigns,” said Vladimir Grakun.

He stressed that as 2018 was a difficult year, the Belarusian agriculture sets forth ambitious tasks for 2019. “In fact, we need to increase the production of crops by 22%, including that of grain by 44%. We need to secure public procurement for grain, seed fund and feed grain for cattle breeding,” the deputy minister said.

The third international forum “Agriculture in Belarus” in Minsk has brought together representatives of agribusiness from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and other countries. The mission of the forum is to help Belarusian agricultural industry advance technologically, find new markets, product niches, partners and customers. The event has been organized by the Produkt.BY magazine with the support of the Agriculture and Food Ministry of Belarus.

Leading domestic and foreign experts in feed production, rapeseed processing, potato growing and horticulture, representatives of science, financial institutions are set to discuss the principles of precision farming, husbandry, innovation horticulture, agricultural chemistry, organization of manufacturing processes, management, digitalization, means of monitoring and navigation.
