Governor: Omsk Oblast is interested in new business contacts, experience exchange with Belarus

Governor: Omsk Oblast is interested in new business contacts, experience exchange with Belarus

MOGILEV, 30 September (BelTA) - The delegation of Russia’s Omsk Oblast came to Belarus not only to establish business contacts but also to learn from Belarus’ experience in various fields, Governor of Russia’s Omsk Oblast Aleksandr Burkov told the media during a visit to Mogilev Oblast on 29 September, BelTA has learned.

“There are many points of contact for fostering relations between Omsk Oblast and Mogilev Oblast. The free economic zone Mogilev has a new plant producing technical carbon, which is part of the Omsk Carbon Group. This represents a direct link not only for the supply of finished products but also the transfer of technology. The plant in Mogilev is world-class,” the governor said.

The plant is to be launched this year,  Mogilev Oblast Vice Governor Ruslan Strakhar said. "Omsk Carbon Mogilev has already manufactured a trial batch of technical carbon, which was tested at Belshina and praised for its quality," said Ruslan Strakhar.

More than $100 million has been poured in, and 500 jobs have been created as part of the investment project, which is being implemented in the free economic zone Mogilev. The designed project capacity of Omsk Carbon Mogilev is 200,000 tonnes of technical carbon per year.

Agriculture in general and pedigree farming in particular are another area that Russian partners are interested in. "This will help us to renew our herd and improve the quality of animals," the head of the Omsk region said.

The delegation of Omsk Oblast is set to visit Mogilev enterprises, including Babushkina Krynka dairy. “We are very interested in the processing of dairy and meat products. At Babushkina Krynka we will get familiar with the manufacturing technologies, management methods. I admire the volume of agricultural exports of Belarus," Aleksandr Burkov said.

Another point of contact between the two region may be the construction sector. Now there are about 2 million residents in Omsk Oblast. "We have a great need for strong construction and design companies that could handle all stages of construction, from project development to commissioning. We mean not only housing but also social facilities. We see that the construction sector of Belarus is highly professional. We have seen the projects it has implemented in the western regions of Russia. We are ready to invite Belarusian builders over to our region," Aleksandr Burkov said.

Belarusian free economic zones are also of interest to Omsk Oblast. "Now we are developing a special economic zone Avangard. It's going to be a petrochemical zone. There are a lot of such enterprises in our region, and we want to spur their development, to give them special conditions, preferences,” the governor said . "We are interested in your experience. We have already seen the Great Stone near Minsk. Now we want to see how it works for you. This will help us to implement our project faster and more successfully."

According to the governor of Omsk Oblast, another area for cooperation is flax production and processing technology. "Omsk Oblast is the leader in the Russian Federation in terms of flax production, but, unfortunately, flax in our region is of very low quality. Belarus is known for high quality of its flax. We have already started cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences in this field," the head of Omsk Oblast said.

Mogilev Oblast can offer cooperation in the fields of elevator construction, agricultural engineering, food industry, construction and culture. "Mogilev Oblast maintains traditional ties with the regions of the Russian Federation. For us it is the main strategic partner. We sell more than 60% of all export products to Russia,” Mogilev Oblast Vice Governor Ruslan Strakhar said. “Omsk Oblast is an important partner region for us. We can supply agricultural machinery, food and other products. It is important that the visit of the Omsk Oblast delegation to Mogilev Oblast takes place within the framework of the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia. We see regional ties as the essential means to build up cooperation between Belarus and Russia,” the vice governor said.
