Gomel, Chengdu to establish sister-city relations

GOMEL, 7 November (BelTA) - Gomel (Belarus) and Chengdu (China) will establish sister-city relations. The relevant agreement will be signed during a visit of an official delegation of Gomel Oblast to Sichuan Province on 7-11 November, BelTA learned from the press service of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee.

The delegation headed by Vice-Governor Oleg Pochinok includes representatives oflocal authorities, public utilities, private business. The program of the visit includes talks on development cooperation with the senior officials of Sichuan Province and Chengdu city, the traditional medicine department and a visit to the Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Representatives of the Belarusian region will also take part in an investment forum. The head of the delegation will make a report on the investment opportunities of the region, and the Director of the Gomeloblpischeprom food industry concern will hold a presentation of investment projects and products of the food industry in the region. A business matchmaking session will bring together representatives of local companies to discuss the supplies of the goods made in Gomel Oblast to Sichuan Province.

The agreement on cooperation between Gomel Oblast and Sichuan Province was signed in May 2015. The document envisages cooperation on principles of partnership, equality, trust and mutual benefit in such areas as economy, agriculture, healthcare and culture, education, sport and tourism. The parties agreed to establish direct contacts and twin-town ties between the cities of the two regions in order to develop cooperation in the abovementioned sectors.

Chengdu is an administrative center of Sichuan Province in the south-west of China. Its population is 14 million.
