Golovchenko: Sanctions against Belarus and Russia rock the entire world economy

MINSK, 14 May (BelTA) – Sanctions against Belarus and Russia rock the entire world economy. Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko made the statement in an interview with the TV channel Al Arabiya, BelTA has learned.

Roman Golovchenko said: “The purpose of the sanctions was to bring down Belarus and Russia to their knees fast but we see what is happening in the world as a result. The other side of the sanctions is problems with food, with fertilizers, with rising prices for energy resources (due to which Europe is in shock now), and inflation. In other words, the sanctions rock the entire world economy.”

The official noted that Belarus was one of the key suppliers of fuel to the European market, in particular, diesel fuel. “Europe does not have enough capacity to make diesel fuel. We can see now that prices at gas stations in Europe start at €2 per liter of fuel. It is an inverse effect of the sanctions,” the prime minister noted.

Apart from that, world prices for food break records. “The UN and its agencies sound the alarm. The world is threatened with hunger. But Washington and its allies seem not to care,” Roman Golovchenko said.

“Sanctions are a very dangerous tool, which is used without any rules at all. It is very difficult to predict how it all will end,” he concluded.
