German business eager to cooperate with Belarus in energy security

MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) – Germany’s small and medium-sized business is interested in cooperation with Belarus in energy security. Representatives of six German companies who are in Belarus on a business visit from 12 to 16 June attended the opening of the conference “Building bioenergy, photovoltaic, wind energy facilities and finding energy efficient industrial solutions” opened on 13 June, BelTA has learned.

These are small and medium-sized businesses that offer their services in planning, designing, and carrying out projects in renewable energy sources and energy efficient industrial solutions. According to Head of the Representation of the German Economy in Belarus Wladimir Augustinsky, the German businessmen came to Belarus to explore Belarus’ energy market, showcase the German technologies and share experience, find new contacts and talk with representatives of the Belarusian companies, organizations and institutions over the implementation of joint projects in renewable energy sources, efficient industrial solutions, and energy security.

The conference “Building bioenergy, photovoltaic, wind energy facilities and finding energy efficient industrial solutions” makes part of the Energy Export Initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

During the conference the German side emphasized that renewable energy and energy efficiency go hand in hand. These two matters need a comprehensive solution to make new successful projects possible. Energy efficiency receives sustainable attention in Germany. According to the estimates of the German specialists, from 10% to 25% of energy expenditure accounts for the malfunctions and problems of industrial facilities (concrete plants, pipeline systems). These problems need to be fixed to save energy.

Attending the conference was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Belarus Peter Dettmar. He stressed that German companies are eager to share their experience in alternative energy with Belarus.

The German businessmen are expected to attend a matchmaking session during the visit. Furthermore, on 14-15 June they are set to conduct negotiations and visit Belarusian companies and organizations. These events are intended to help intensify Belarus-Germany trade, economic, and investment cooperation in energy sector.
