Geographic feature status for components of China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone

MINSK, 23 November (BelTA) – The lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament gave the first reading to amendments to the law on naming geographic features on 23 November, BelTA has learned.

Chairman of the State Property Committee of Belarus Andrei Gayev explained that the bill will bring the legislation into compliance with Belarus president decree No.166 of 12 May 2017, which was designed to improve the legal regulation of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone.

In particular, parts of the road network, streets, squares, parks and other components of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone will be treated as geographic features. Their names will become official the day the park administration makes such a decision unless specified otherwise.

In line with the bill the park administration will have to notify the State Property Committee about such decisions within ten days for the sake of registry purposes.

Andrei Gayev pointed out that citizens’ rights to naming geographic features had not been affected. The opinion of local residents will be taken into account in line with the administrative procedures on naming parts of the road network and other geographic features in the populated localities inside the borders of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone.
