From joint labs to industrial projects: Belarus-China partnership gains momentum

MINSK, 9 September (BelTA) – Experts discussed the evolving partnership between Belarus and China during the opening of the 5th Chinese Goods and Services Exhibition in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Aleksei Trukhanov noted that the Academy places particular importance on cooperation with China, which possesses enormous innovative potential. “Through joint research and development, conferences and symposia, and participation in major exhibitions, Belarusian and Chinese scientists are working to build a uniquely supportive ecosystem that fosters breakthrough results. At the same time, they are pushing the boundaries of knowledge and innovation for the prosperity of both nations and the well-being of their peoples,” he said.

Joint laboratories are implementing major research projects in materials science, microelectronics, and biotechnology. “The spectrum of scientific interests for the near future will expand to include pharmaceuticals, advanced computing systems, and artificial intelligence technologies,” Aleksei Trukhanov added.

First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergei Lukashevich stressed the importance of mutual cooperation. “Striking examples of successful industrial cooperation between the two countries include the Belarusian-Chinese automotive project BELGEE, as well as the production of engines, transmissions, and refrigeration equipment. In cooperation with Minsk Automobile Plant, assembly is underway for cranes, excavators, and loader cranes,” he said. “As can be seen from the list of joint projects, we have sufficient, competencies and experience. And we are open to expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in any direction, from production technologies and energy to the agro-industrial sector, IT, and others.”

According to Song Zhiming, Vice President of the China Machinery Industry Federation, 2026 and 2027 have been declared years of industrial cooperation between China and Belarus, opening up new opportunities for interaction between the two countries. In this regard, the Chinese side organized a visit by delegations of industry associations and enterprises to Belarus. The program includes meetings with representatives of Belarusian ministries and government agencies, the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone, participation in B2B negotiations, visits to MAZ, BelAZ, and other leading enterprises, as well as exploring ways to jointly enter the EAEU market.

The Chinese side sees broad prospects for joint cooperation in machinery as the Belt and Road Initiative advances and opportunities for cooperation within the SCO and EAEU are unlocked. “We intend to work with Belarus to build multi-tiered cooperation platforms, share opportunities in technological innovation, uphold responsible green development principles, and jointly create stable production and supply chains,” Song Zhiming emphasized.

According to him, since opening its office in Belarus, the organization has consistently supported the development of the Great Stone industrial park and contributed to deepening cooperation in machinery between the two countries. “Enterprises within the federation are successfully developing their operations on the park’s territory and have become examples of international cooperation in the production sector,” he noted.

Deputy General Manager of China National Machinery Industry Corporation (SINOMACH) Li Xiaoyu added that under the leadership of the two heads of state, Belarusian-Chinese relations have made a leap forward in development.

As a leading enterprise in China’s machinery sector, the corporation will harness its industrial and research capabilities to offer full support for the high-quality joint implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, and to further advance Belarusian-Chinese cooperation.

The corporation has also invested in the creation of the Fackel SINOMACH project in the industrial park, which has already hosted more than 20 Belarusian-Chinese sci-tech and innovative enterprises and organizations. “The project will keep driving innovation forward, enabling the commercialization of cross-border R&D results in multiple sectors while building a more sophisticated innovation hub for high-quality industrial growth in China and Belarus,” the corporation representative added.
