FM defends Belarus’ multi-vector policy

MINSK, 23 November (BelTA) – Along with the cooperation with the main partner Russia, Belarus does not give up on cooperation with others, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said in an interview to the Belarus 1 TV channel on 17 November, BelTA has learned.

"They cannot reproach Belarus in any way for its multi-vector policy," the Belarusian minister said. "Survival of Belarus as a state depends on this." But this does not mean that Belarus will be friends with everyone in equal measure. The balance of power is changing, and Belarus should take into account how other partners treat it,” he said.

“We have always said that Russia is our strategic ally, our main partner. Whether we want it or not, this direction will be the main vector of our cooperation,” the minister continued.

At the same time, Belarus is not going to give up on other vectors of cooperation. “The European Union countries, other non-CIS countries account for more than 50% of Belarus’ exports,” the minister said.
