MINSK, 9 June (BelTA) - The first train carrying U.S. oil headed off from Klaipeda to Belarus. LG Cargo, a subsidiary of Lithuanian Railways, has confirmed this information to the BNS news agency, Delfi reports.

“The first train with oil departed from Klaipeda tonight at 1.05. We plan to deliver the entire volume to Belarus in 10 days, and intend to use about 22-23 trains. Every day we will send 120 oil cars, or about 7,000 tonnes of oil,” Martinas Burba, a representative of Lithuanian Railways, told BNS.

As BelTA reported earlier, the tanker carrying 77,000 tonnes of U.S. Bakken oil arrived at the port of Klaipeda on 5 June. The oil will be processed at OAO Naftan. This is the 12th tanker delivery from alternative suppliers this year. The total tanker supplies have already exceeded 1 million tonnes.

The deal on the supply of the first batch of U.S. oil to Belarus was concluded with the participation of the U.S. energy trader United Energy Trading, and also with the assistance of U.S. firm Getka and their Polish partner UNIMOT.
