MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) – A tanker carrying oil bought by Belarus from the Saudi Arabian national oil company Saudi Aramco has reached the Port of Klaipeda, BelTA learned from Aleksandr Tishchenko, Press Secretary of the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim.

“A tanker carrying 87,000 tonnes of oil arrived at night and was placed for unloading,” Aleksandr Tishchenko said.

According to him, the unloading will be ongoing till 14 May. After that the oil will be shipped by rail to OAO Naftan. The crude will be delivered to the Belarusian oil refinery starting from 16 May if the oil transportation by rail goes as planned.

Belneftekhim informed earlier that the further oil supplies from Saudi Aramco will depend on the situation on the market.

This year Belarus has also bought Norwegian and Azerbaijani oil for Belarusian oil refineries with transshipment in the Port of Klaipeda (Lithuania) and the Port of Odessa (Ukraine) respectively.

Earlier BelTA quoted First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Krutoi as saying that alternative oil deliveries will always be on the Belarusian oil agenda. “We will continue working with all the countries we’ve already bought oil from (Azerbaijan, Norway) and with our new partners such as Saudi Arabia and the USA. No doubt, we will try to secure the most profitable terms of these deliveries,” Dmitry Krutoi said.
