EU-EEU interaction viewed as key element of emerging global system of relations

MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) – Interaction between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union can become a very important element of the emerging global system of relations, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at the international conference “Laying the foundation in the UNECE region for economic. Integration and sustainable development towards 2030”, BelTA has learned.

“The Economic Commission for Europe plays an important role here. It is a leading pan-European platform which can contribute to the development of trade flows, investment, transport, infrastructure and energy links,” Vladimir Makei said.

“Belarus proposes to use the UNECE as a platform to discuss ways of interaction between the integration associations in the region. In this connection, it is advisable for the Commission to set up a permanent group that would draft recommendations on the ways to deepen the cooperation between the integration entities,” the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs said. The promising areas of interaction between the integration associations, in his opinion, include the approximation of technical requirements and standards in trade, removal of regulatory and procedural barriers to it, cooperation in transport infrastructure, exchange of innovative technologies, establishment of a common energy market, and cooperation in the field of public-private partnerships.

In his opinion, of particular importance for Belarus are the joint efforts to ensure unimpeded transit, end-to-end flow of transport vehicles through the border between the two largest integration associations: the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union.
