MINSK, 20 June (BelTA) – Belarus' Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar outlined the country's priorities until 2040 as he spoke at the session “Synergy in the EAEU’s Real Sector: Responding to Today’s Challenges” during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, BelTA has learned.

Belarus has approved the National Sustainable Development Strategy for the period until 2040. It defines the country's development priorities that include  technological advancement. “Studies show that today digitalization can add 50-60% to economic growth. These are our goals for today - to make the most of our economic potential using advanced digital technologies. We need to work in this direction in the EAEU as well. We will not be able to do this on our own as we need uniform approaches, common digital platforms and uniform market regulations,” Yuri Chebotar said.

He also spoke about the problem of workforce deficit. According to the minister, automation and robotization can help address this problem. “Here we have made little headway. According to our estimates, there are 4-6 robots per 10,000 workers. This is a very low figure. We have set ourselves the goal of having 150 robots per 10,000 workers in 10 years,” he noted. The minister called on other countries of the union to also pay attention to this issue.

The minister also believes that it is necessary to develop the service sector. “In my opinion, this is another important area where we should work together in the EAEU in the coming years,” emphasized Yuri Chebotar.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is recognized as a key global event addressing current economic challenges, with clear mandate to identify and offer practical solutions. Every year, it brings together a great number of business owners and experts seeking to build partnerships, exchange best practices and competencies. This year, delegates from 140 countries are taking part in it.
