EAEU to work out new approaches to lift barriers to dairy trade

CHOLPON-ATA, 9 August (BelTA) – The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) will work out new approaches to lift barriers to the trade in dairy products, Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko told the media as he commented on the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Kyrgyzstan on 9 August, BelTA has learned.

“At Belarus’ initiative, the issue has been raised and draft decisions have been submitted to lift barriers and restrictions which are still present in mutual trade. This pertains, first of all, to phytosanitary and veterinary control, technical regulations,” Igor Petrishenko said.

The prime ministers instructed the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) to team up with the appropriate entities of the EAEU member states to work out coordinated approaches to address the current concerns. “This is especially true for the movement of our dairy products. Instructions have been made to prepare amendments to the technical regulations by the next meeting. The legal framework of the union should be focused on removing the barriers,” the vice premier said.

The Eurasian Intergovernmental Council also discussed the best practices of setting up transnational companies in the European Union. “We are looking into the ways to adapt this to our union. We are working on the legal framework and have been instructed to report on how the EU’s experience meets the interests of the Eurasian Economic Union,” Igor Petrishenko said.

The heads of government approved the information space concept to give a boost to digital economy.

“The main thing is that everyone understands that decisions to remove barriers and restrictions, develop the common markets envisaged in the roadmap to EAEU Treaty and other documents adopted by the heads of state should be taken as soon as possible,” Igor Petrishenko said.
