EAEU lauded for great strides in leveling playing field for economic agents

EAEU lauded for great strides in leveling playing field for economic agents

MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) - Significant progress has been achieved in leveling playing field for economic agents in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said at the meeting of the EAEU heads of government with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan in Yerevan on 21 October, BelTA has learned.

“We have made significant progress in creating equal economic conditions in the EAEU, including the removal of existing barriers in mutual trade. I believe we have come a long way. Yesterday we exchanged views on the remaining issues that hinder the free movement of goods, capital, workforce and services. Much has already been done, and the remaining issues will be definitely resolved. In the near future we will forget about barriers and exemptions in mutual trade,” Roman Golovchenko said.

In his words, the most important issue is the formation of common energy markets on fair terms. “Yesterday we also spent much time on this topic. Despite the fact that some issues still remain, I want to say that we have come a long way and the parties have significantly brought their positions closer in comparison with the initial phase of negotiations on the matter,” the head of government said.

“We have done a lot in customs and tariff regulation, in the elimination of exemptions. We should go deeper and further into the ideological essence of our cooperation, which is the development of competencies of the states and their synergy in creating new modern goods and technologies. We need to move away from the ‘screwdriver assembly’ concept and develop our own competences, which there are many. In this context, it is very important that yesterday we discussed financing mechanisms for such projects. I think that the fact that our positions are similar on the issue speaks for itself. Everyone is ready to work in this direction,” Roman Golovchenko stressed.
