EA praises Belarusian accreditation system

MINSK, 26 December (BelTA) – The European Organization for Accreditation (EA) has given a high appraisal of the Belarusian national accreditation system, BelTA learned from the press service of the State Committee for Standardization.

The competence of the Belarusian accreditation body (its functions are assigned to the Belarusian State Center for Accreditation (BSCA) was assessed from 11 to 15 November 2019. Taking part in the assessment were ten international experts from Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Romania, and the UK.

The main goal of the assessment was to confirm the status under the agreements signed with international accreditation organizations (EA, ILAC, IAF) on mutual recognition of accreditation in terms of testing, calibration, certification of products, services, personnel, and management systems. As BelTA reported, the agreements were signed in late October-November 2018. The possibility to expand cooperation between inspection bodies, medical laboratories, and PT providers was considered as well.

“The evaluation program was comprehensive. The experts checked the activities of BSCA for compliance with the provisions of the fundamental international standards of ILAC, IAF and EA, and also the appropriate European requirements. Special attention was paid to the transition of the BSCA to new versions of ISO/IEC 17011 and to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 by testing and calibration laboratories of the country,” the press service said.

The experts also assessed the operation of more than ten accredited entities selected randomly. All the assessments were carried out at a high level.

It is expected that the issue to confirm the status of the signatory to the accreditation agreements and expand their scope will be considered during the next EA General Assembly in May 2020.

“The positive decision will help with the extension of these agreements to apply, on equal terms, for the recognition of the results of conformity assessment conducted in Belarus in international trade,” the press service said.
