Delegations from 18 countries to participate in forum of Brest partners, sister cities

BREST, 29 August (BelTA) – The second economic forum of Brest partners and sister cities will take place in the Belarusian city of Brest on 5 September. About 30 foreign delegations will take part in the forum, BelTA learned from representatives of the city administration.

The forum will take place ahead of the official celebration of the 1,000th anniversary since Brest’s foundation. Delegations from Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, Bulgaria, Netherlands, Slovakia, Hungary, Israel, Georgia, and Guinea Bissau have confirmed they will participate in the forum. Representatives of the USA, the UK, France, and Kazakhstan are also expected to attend the forum.

The forum will be officially opened in the round hall of Brest City Hall. Before the opening ceremony guests will be able to get familiar with an expo of products and services of about 50 companies and organizations. Brest Mayor Aleksandr Rogachuk will address participants of the forum with a word of welcome. He will present the potential of the oblast capital and will sketch out the main vectors of its development.

“We incline heavily towards IT industry. The Brest State Technical University has excellent infrastructure for training programmers. An IT cluster will be built next to the university. It will be mentioned during the forum,” noted Vadim Kravchuk, First Deputy Chairman of the Brest City Executive Committee. “Logistics looks promising. Brest has a favorable geographical position. It is a major automobile and railway node. The airport and local waterways also offer opportunities for cooperation.”

The program of the economic forum is divided into four blocks: a social one, civil engineering, trade and manufacturing, transportation and logistics. Plans have been made for B2B talks, visits to enterprises and organizations. Over 20 agreements on cooperation in various spheres, including economy, education, and tourism, are supposed to be signed.
