Cryptocurrency mining outside legal environment in Belarus till 28 March

MINSK, 19 January (BelTA) – The Hi-Tech Park of Belarus has released a FAQ to better explain the Digital Economy Development Ordinance. The answers are available on the Hi-Tech Park website, BelTA has learned.

One of the popular questions is whether natural persons can engage in cryptocurrency mining before the Digital Economy Development Ordinance comes into effect or not. Representatives of the Hi-Tech Park reminded that cryptocurrency mining in Belarus will stay outside the legal environment till 28 March. In other words, cryptocurrency mining will remain unregulated until that date.

As far as corporations are concerned, they are free to mine cryptocurrencies as from 28 March. In line with the Digital Economy Development Ordinance corporations will be able to mine cryptocurrencies only after they become a resident in the Hi-Tech Park. A license will not be required to mine cryptocurrencies in Belarus.
