Contracts worth over $3 million signed at Brest economic forum

BREST, 5 September (BelTA) - Participants of the 2nd economic forum of twin towns and partners of Brest signed contracts worth over $3 million on 5 September, BelTA learned from Brest First Deputy Mayor Vadim Kravchuk.

The event has drawn representatives of business communities of 18 countries. During the plenary session, participants of the forum signed over 20 cooperation agreements. Representatives of Russia, Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Israel, and Latvia have expressed interest in stepping up cooperation with enterprises, organizations and institutions of Brest. “We have concluded contracts worth more than $3 million today and we hope to do even better,” Vadim Kravchuk said. “Brest companies have demonstrated their potential well at the exhibition within the framework of the forum. Ten prior arrangements have been made at the exhibition alone. The partners will agree upon prices and terms of supplies during visits to enterprises,” he added.

Participants of the forum signed not only commercial contracts, but also cooperation agreements in various areas. For example, Brest schools will foster relations with Polish educational institutions and Pushkin Brest State University – with St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo. The administration of Moskovsky District of Brest established cooperation in physical education, sport and tourism with Poland’s Boguchwala, the culture department of Brest City Hall – with the department for education, culture, and sport of Latvia’s Ludza Municipality.

The city of Brest itself has also found a new partner at the forum. On 5 September, Brest signed a cooperation agreement with Opan Municipality, Bulgaria. “We do not aim to enter into twin town or partnership agreements with whoever we meet. We carefully think a possible agreement through, analyzing mutual interests of the parties. With our Bulgarian partners we have signed an agreement on comprehensive cooperation,” Vadim Kravchuk said.

In the second half of the day, participants of the economic forum will work in four sections: social, construction, trade and industry, and transport and logistics. Participants will also visit enterprises and organizations and hold B2B talks.
