Chinese producers of medicinal herbs eyeing Belarusian market

Chinese producers of medicinal herbs eyeing Belarusian market

MINSK, 5 September (BelTA) – Representatives of a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) hospital of Jiangsu Province would like to sell Chinese medicinal herbs on the Belarusian market and the market of Mogilev Oblast, in particular. This matter was discussed at the meeting of the hospital representatives and the Mogilev Oblast administration on the sidelines of the regional Belarus-China Cooperation Week that is taking place in Mogilev on 3-6 September, BelTA has learned.

“The Chinese delegation has come here with a proposal to sell Chinese medicinal herbs on the market of Mogilev Oblast and Belarus in general. This matter is of great interest to us, because medicinal herbs are also used in the Belarusian traditional medicine to treat a number of diseases. We all know various herb mixes, herbal teas and other products based on herbs,” Chief Medical Officer of the Mogilev Central Polyclinic Aleksandr Basenko said.

In his words, Chinese herbs can also be used in various combinations to treat diseases. However, they should be registered and certified. The Chinese partners need to decide what niche they are going to take. These medicinal herbs can be registered as medicines that can be included in clinical protocols to treat certain diseases. They can also be marketed as dietary supplement products.

“If the Chinese partners can get a permit to sell these products in Belarus, we will provide maximum assistance with their promotion,” Aleksandr Basenko said.

Local residents are familiar with traditional Chinese medicine. A TCM center was opened at the Mogilev Central Polyclinic more than a year ago. It specializes in acupuncture and acupressure. According to the polyclinic administration, these treatments are popular with local residents.
