Chinese private sector eager to advance cooperation with Belarus in various spheres

MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) – The possibility of implementing new joint projects were discussed as Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich met with a delegation of the Confederation of Chinese Re-emigrant Entrepreneurs on 3 May, BelTA has learned. The delegation was led by the chairman, member the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Xu Rongmao.

Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed that Belarus treasures good relations with China. The year 2016 was a special milestone in their history when the two heads of state signed a joint declaration on establishing trustful comprehensive all-round strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation. “Cooperation was invigorated in every avenue: politics, economy, investments. People in Belarus were very glad of it,” the head of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament said. The all-weather nature of Belarus-China cooperation allows taking steps to create the community of common destiny that China President Xi Jinping has suggested, Mikhail Myasnikovich added.

In late April Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko visited China. He met with China President Xi Jinping and Vice President Wang Qishan. “The meetings in Beijing truly open a new page in multilateral cooperation and bilateral cooperation,” Mikhail Myasnikovich is convinced.

Advantages of partnership with Belarus include a beneficial geographical position, a well-developed system of logistics and transport communications, reliable manufacturing capabilities and highly trained workforce.

In 2018 Belarus-China trade totaled $3.8 billion. However, it is far from the limit. According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, the two countries have the potential to expand cooperation in investments. “We should set up more joint ventures. We are also interested in inviting Chinese investors to work as residents in Belarus,” Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed. Good opportunities for that are available in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone. Apart from that, Chinese companies could actively cooperate with OOO Bremino Group, could implement their projects in the industrial and logistics complex Bremino-Orsha where preferences for investors are also available.

In turn, Xu Rongmao noted that the Chinese private sector views transport and logistics, woodworking, the establishment of high-tech manufacturing enterprises, telecommunication technologies, and food import among priority avenues of cooperation with Belarus.

He drew attention to the enhancement of humanitarian ties and the advancement of cooperation in tourism.

Xu Rongmao added that the delegation had been in Belarus for two days. “Interest in the country as a partnership region has only grown stronger in this period. There is great mutual complementarity in cooperation. Belarus is a major transport node in the Euro-Asian region. We could use this advantage to generate maximum profits from cooperation in trade, economy, and humanitarian sphere,” he said.

The Chinese delegation includes over 20 representatives of major companies specializing in the management of scientific and industrial parks, tourism, hotel business, and other areas.

During the meeting representatives of Chinese companies asked Mikhail Myasnikovich a number of questions concerning practical aspects of bilateral cooperation and the implementation of joint projects. The head of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament gave explanations about all the topics that had been raised. Apart from that, the delegation received information materials about matters of interest.

At the end of the meeting the head of the Chinese delegation added that China’s accomplishments in the last few decades owe a lot to foreign investments, a considerable part of which came as investments from foreign companies run by Chinese immigrants.
