Chinese company eager to grow mushrooms, process beef in Mogilev Oblast

MOGILEV, 5 April (BelTA) – A Chinese company intends to set up enterprises in Mogilev Oblast for growing mushrooms and processing beef. The relevant agreement was reached as a delegation of Jiangsu Overseas Group Corporation (China) met with Deputy Chairman of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee Viktor Nekrashevich on 5 April, BelTA has learned.

An army unit is expected to vacate premises in Krichev District soon. Mushrooms (shiitake and other varieties) can be grown over there. The facility will need minor repairs. The walls will need heat insulation and access roads will have to be laid. All these matters will be taken care of fast, assured the Mogilev Oblast Vice Governor. The enterprise will also enjoy benefits specified by Belarus president decree No.235 on the social and economic development of southeastern parts of Mogilev Oblast of 8 June 2015.

According to the Deputy Chairman of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee, the location is convenient as far as logistics and workforce are concerned. There are plans to create about 200 jobs as part of the project while Krichev District has a good human resources potential. The Chinese company intends to sell mushrooms in Belarus, in Europe, and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Speaking about meat processing, Wang Yuanjian, Vice President of Jiangsu Overseas Group Corporation, noted that the Chinese delegation had visited meat-packing plants in most of the oblast capitals, had studied the manufacturing process, had talked to the management, and had decided to cooperate with a Mogilev company. The sides have agreed to set up a joint venture to process beef using premises of Mogilev Meat-Packing Plant in order to export merchandise to China after that. The available premises will have to be reconstructed, equipment will be bought and the products will have to be certified for the Chinese market. The partners intend to put together a precise business plan soon and calculate the economic effectiveness of the project.
