MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – The China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone and the Minsk National Airport have signed a memorandum of cooperation, BelTA has learned.

The sides will work together on initiatives designed to connect transportation by air with transportation by rail and by road in the industrial park’s logistic zone.

The sides will also work together on the construction of transport and logistics infrastructure in the industrial park’s logistic zone, with investments to be raised.

The avenues of cooperation also include the organization of transport links and the creation of infrastructure in adjacent territories.

First Deputy Director General of SZAO Industrial Park Development Company Kirill Koroteyev explained that the second stage of the development of the industrial park’s territory is starting now. The deployment of a multimodal railway freight terminal will begin in the park this year. Since the memorandum is signed, the sides will take into account each other’s interests in the course of implementing various projects. “We will endeavor to make sure that every step benefits not only the industrial park but the airport as well. And vice versa. We will do it together and to the mutual benefit,” the executive noted.

The industrial park and the airport have interconnected power grids and the road network. Respectively the development of this direction will continue. Some joint financing options may be considered but only in the more distant future taking into account the complicated situation today, he added.

A railroad to connect the city of Minsk and the airport is supposed to cross the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone. It will give a competitive edge to the airport and the industrial park, Kirill Koroteyev believes.

The China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone is a special economic zone with a special legal regime. It is located 25km away from Minsk. The industrial park is home to 68 resident companies from 14 countries. The park’s priority development areas include mechanical engineering, electronics and telecommunications, biotechnologies, pharmaceutics, new materials, logistics, digital commerce, big data storage and processing.
