Catalonia interested in Belarusian electric buses
Vladimir Kukharev shakes hands with Isidre Gavin

MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) – Catalonia is interested in Belarusian electric buses. The matter was discussed as Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Kukharev met with Catalonian Secretary for Infrastructure and Transport Isidre Gavin on 30 January, BelTA has learned.

Isidre Gavin said: “We’ve visited Belkommunmash Company, which impressed us a lot with the quality of electric buses. Catalonia has an important strategic goal – to replace transport with environmentally friendly one due to high air pollution and emissions.”

While in Minsk the Catalonian delegation held negotiations with the Belarusian air carrier Belavia. “It was a very productive meeting. We see there are huge opportunities for stronger ties and mutual exchange in the sphere of tourism for Belarusian and Catalonian companies,” the Catalonian secretary for infrastructure and transport added.

Isidre Gavin thanked the Belarusian government for support for the development of joint projects. “We are seriously intent on examining all the opportunities, ways to establish ties between Catalonia and Belarus. I hope this cooperation will bear very good fruit,” he concluded.

In turn, Vladimir Kukharev stressed that relations with Catalonia, one of Spain’s largest regions, are very important for Belarus. “Our national air carrier Belavia is interested in cooperation. You could also find contact points with the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus, which provides loans to organizations,” he noted.

In January-November 2019 Belarus-Spain trade rose by 13.9% to $310.4 million. Belarus’ export to Spain totaled $15.2 million (36% down) while import amounted to $295.2 million (20.5% up). Belarus’ main exports to Spain included furniture, glass fiber, flax fabric, and building structures. Belarus imported Spanish fruits, metal structures, medications, vegetables, wines, and other products.
