Brest Oblast, Moldova eager to process vegetables, fruits together

BREST, 26 July (BelTA) – Brest Oblast and Moldova are interested in setting up a joint venture to process vegetables and fruits. The idea was discussed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Moldova to Belarus Victor Sorocean met with Brest Oblast Vice Governor Mikhail Serkov on 26 July, BelTA has learned.

Mikhail Serkov said: “Rather good relations have been established between the Belarusian nation and the Moldovan one. Our cooperation interests coincide. Many prospects are available. For instance, we cannot grow the foods that Moldova grows. At the same time we process what they cannot process. It is necessary to use the opportunity and process fruits and vegetables together. A great deal of work is ahead of us.”

Victor Sorocean stressed that Moldova focuses on developing manufacturing cooperation ties. “Joint ventures allow employing people on both sides and making new products. We are ready to supply fruits, vegetables, and other kinds of raw materials so that your enterprises could make what third-country markets need,” noted the ambassador. “The relations will be more effective if Moldova manages to establish direct ties with regions of Belarus. We should bring together partners from both sides. They will sign contracts and will create the enterprises that joint manufacturing schemes need.”

The diplomat also pointed out the invigoration of cultural relations. He suggested discussing the possibility of celebrating Moldovan holidays in regions of Belarus. “We are going to arrange a Moldovan wine festival in Minsk. We will think together with your leaders about what event may be organized in Brest. Instead of arranging it and forgetting it we would like to make it traditional,” noted Victor Sorocean.

The ambassador of Moldova went to Brest on 26 July on a working trip. Apart from meeting with representatives of the Brest Oblast administration he is expected to visit a number of companies, the Brest office of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the free economic zone Brest, and meet with local businessmen.
