Brest Oblast Hospital to cooperate with University Hospital of Strasbourg

BREST, 12 December (BelTA) – The agreement on cooperation between Brest Oblast Hospital and the University Hospital of Strasbourg was signed at the Brest Oblast Executive Committee on 12 December, BelTA has learned.

The agreement envisages cooperation in various sectors, including on-the-job training for specialists in the healthcare institutions of Brest and Strasbourg, participation in academic conference and master classes. “We are first of all interested in the development of thoracic surgery, cardiosurgery, anesthesiology, and transfusiology. These are the medical sectors we have recently mastered. We plan to develop eye microsurgery and neurosurgery services,” head doctor of Brest Oblast Hospital Alexander Karpitsky said. He added that French doctors are determined to study the methods the Brest hospital uses in endoscopic surgeries on esophagus.

According to President of University Hospital of Strasbourg Christophe Gautier, their Brest counterparts provide medical assistance at a high level. “The organization of work in our institutions is different, but there are many common ideas. The interest is in studying the best practices of both the hospitals and introducing them. The main goal is to promote the experience sharing between the clinics of the two regions,” the French specialist said.

According to Brest Oblast Vice Governor Oleg Velichko, active cooperation between the two hospitals will help strengthen relations between Belarusian and French regions. “We are interested in further cooperation. The University Hospital of Strasbourg is a world-renowned medical institution where our doctors can adopt the best practices and technologies. We hope for cooperation not only with the oblast hospital, but also with other healthcare institutions of the region,” he said.

Brest Oblast Hospital also closely cooperates with the medical organizations of Rovno and Lutsa (Ukraine), Kaunas (Lithuania), Leszno and Biala Podlaska (Poland). “Thirty specialists have already received on-the-job training in Lithuania. Medical specialists of Kaunas visit us. We provide assistance to our counterparts in Ukraine. Our specialists have traveled to Ukraine to hold master classes, perform surgeries and help introduce new treatment methods,” Alexander Karpitsky said.
