Brest Oblast expands presence on Chinese market

Brest Oblast expands presence on Chinese market

BREST, 9 October (BelTA) - Brest Oblast has increased the number of enterprises bringing their products to the Chinese market, Brest Oblast Deputy Governor Mikhail Batsenko told journalists on 9 October, BelTA has learned.

“China is a strategic partner for us. In terms of foreign trade, it ranks second after the Russian Federation,” Mikhail Batsenko remarked. “The trade is gaining momentum every year. In 2025, exports are projected to grow 1.5 times compared with 2024, with all the necessary conditions already in place. Several products have successfully entered the Chinese market, and the number of enterprises exporting there continues to rise.”

In addition to expanding foreign trade, Brest Oblast is also attracting Chinese investment, supported in part by twinning relations. “We are developing investment projects with our sister provinces: Liaoning, Anhui, and Shanxi. We are set to open a plant to produce albumin and immunoglobulin in Gantsevichi in November. No one else in the CIS currently manufactures these products. We are also building cooperation with JAC in mechanical engineering and with Midea, while several other investment projects are under development,” he said. The deputy governor added that a delegation from Brest Oblast is planning a visit to China in the near future, where agreements on further cooperation with sister provinces are expected to be signed.

Brest Oblast is particularly interested in strengthening cooperation with Chinese partners in mechanical engineering, chemical, and biopharmaceutical industries. “Chinese companies have achieved impressive results in these areas, often surpassing their European counterparts. We are eager to work together in these fields. At present, we supply food products and wood processing goods. I’ll share a small secret: the Kobrin Butter and Cheese Plant has entered the Chinese market with butter – something that has never happened before,” Mikhail Batsenko said. According to him, another advantage of Brest Oblast is its logistics sector.

Today, Brest is hosting the economic forum-workshop Strategic Partner – China, with more than 120 business representatives taking part.
