Black Sea Economic Cooperation to hold business forum in Minsk in 2018

MINSK, 14 September (BelTA) – The Organization of Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) intends to hold a business forum in Minsk in 2018. Chairman of the Council of the Republic of Belarus’ National Assembly Mikhail Myasnikovich, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) Asaf Hajiyev, and PABSEC Vice President Petar Kanev discussed these plans as they met on 14 September, BelTA has learned.

“We are in favor of expanding cooperation with the BSEC. We think that this organization should stay apolitical. No bilateral political disputes should get in the way of the practical implementation of economic initiatives,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said. He noted that the BSEC had been consistently working on the development of economic contacts. According to the speaker, the BSEC member states, observers, and partners should continue providing the necessary environment for the effective operation of business entities and companies.

Mikhail Myasnikovich emphasized that Belarus is interested in hosting a business forum for BSEC member states in Minsk in 2018. He came up with a proposal to extend the event to two days since there are also plans to hold an international conference dedicated to the Silk Road Economic Belt.

“We should probably co-locate this business forum with the Belarusian industrial forum due in May 2018. Or, quite possibly, it will be a separate event,” Mikhail Myasnikovich added.

Established on 25 June 1992 in Istanbul, Turkey, the Organization of Black Sea Economic Cooperation is designed to develop cooperation, peace, stability, and prosperity in the Black Sea region. The BSEC comprises twelve member states: Azerbaijan, Albania, Armenia, Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Moldova, Russia, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, and Ukraine. Some countries have an observer status in the BSEC: Austria, Belarus, Germany, Egypt, Israel, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, the USA, France, Tunisia, Croatia, Czechia, and other states.
