MINSK, 8 September (BelTA) – The city of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan wants to buy public transport vehicles from Minsk-based companies, Bishkek Vice Mayor Gennady Militsky said as he met with Minsk Mayor Andrei Shorets on 8 September, BelTA has learned.

The Management Company of the Belkommunmash Holding Company sold 20 trolleybuses to Kyrgyzstan's capital in 2009. The company has won a tender to export another 30 electric vehicles. Bishkek also intends to buy around 400 buses with a large passenger capacity. The city is now looking for suppliers. It is also interested in studying Minsk’s experience in the implementation of the Smart City project.

Andrei Shorets offered to learn more about Belarusian-made electric buses and take a ride around the city in such a vehicle.

The two cities signed an agreement on economic, scientific, technical, and cultural cooperation in July 1997, which was followed by a twinning agreement in 2008.

In January-July 2017 Minsk-Kyrgyzstan trade surged by 206% from H1 2016, the export of goods ballooned by 293.7%, the export of services by 76.1%. The major exports of Minsk-based companies to Kyrgyzstan are tractors, paving slabs, radiators, air heaters, refrigerators, and medicines. The delegation of Bishkek is taking part in the celebrations dedicated to the 950th anniversary of the Belarusian capital.
