Belarusian woodworking companies told to push harder for Chinese market

MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) – Belarusian woodworking companies should put more efforts into exploring the Chinese market. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko gave the relevant instructions at the session of the board of the Belarusian timber, woodworking, pulp and paper industry concern Bellesbumprom on 29 March, BelTA has learned.

The Deputy Prime Minister underlined that without expanding the target markets, without looking for new buyers it would be quite difficult for the woodworking companies to increase sales. It is necessary to take a closer look at absolutely new markets for timber products and find reserves there. As an example Vladimir Semashko mentioned China. “The country may be far from us in geographical terms yet in my opinion you should try and look at it as a possible target market. Calculate all the options. A lot of construction projects are in progress in China. The demand for materials is colossal. It is a huge market,” concluded the Deputy Prime Minister.

Apart from that, Vladimir Semashko drew attention of the management of the woodworking enterprises that make wooden sheet products to the need to make furniture of their own. “Limiting yourself to making materials is not a good idea. It is necessary to make more expensive products. With sheet materials of your own it will not be difficult for you to start assembling affordable furniture. It is what you have to bear in mind,” stressed the official.

After modernization the concern’s basic woodworking enterprises boast state-of-the-art technologies and are on par with many European manufacturers. “However, we need more than that to enter new markets. It is necessary to put efforts into reducing the prime costs in order to offer competitive prices. Every company has reserves for that. It is necessary to analyze things in detail and come up with solutions on how to avoid excessive costs and save money. Every company should have a relevant program of its own and every company should work on it constantly,” stated Vladimir Semashko.
