Belarusian, South Korean forensic experts agree on cooperation in high technology

MINSK, 27 March (BelTA) – The State Forensic Examination Committee of Belarus and the National Forensic Service of the Republic of Korea have signed a memorandum of cooperation in forensic enquiry in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

According to Chairman of the State Forensic Examination Committee of Belarus Andrei Shved, the Republic of Korea is the undisputed leader in a number of forensic expertise areas. Belarusian specialists are interested in adopting South Korea’s best practices of using high technology in expertise and process automation. The State committee is currently implementing a program to update the DNA database, which helps to solve past crimes and quickly identify people whose biological material is found at crime sites and incidents.

The memorandum will let the parties establish cooperation in the training of experts, the exchange of expert practices, the latest technology in forensic expertise.

The delegation of the National Forensic Service of the Republic of Korea, which is headed by Director Young-shik Choi, is in Minsk on a visit on 26-29 March. The parties are discussing the prospects for cooperation, including the issues of training Belarusian experts in the National Forensic Service of the Republic of Korea.

The program of the visit to Minsk includes a tour of the multifunctional center of forensic expertise, which was opened in late 2017, the department of general examinations, and laboratories.

In October 2018, the delegation of the State Forensic Examination Committee of Belarus paid a visit to the National Forensic Service of the Republic of Korea. Andrei Shved held working meetings with the deputy minister of the interior and safety of South Korea.
