Belarusian, Russian bike manufacturers to team up

MINSK, 28 November (BelTA) – The Belarusian company OOO MotoVeloZavod and the Russian company OOO Velomotors (Bryansk) intend to set up a joint venture. The news was released by MotoVeloZavod Director Nikolai Ladutko before a seminar on problems, prospects, and innovations in forming the common science and technology space in the Union State of Belarus and Russia on 28 November, BelTA has learned. The seminar is permanently open and is hosted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia.

The executive said: “Today we will submit a number of proposals on enabling equal conditions for all economic entities, for supporting domestic manufacturers, and enabling conditions conducive to investments in the Union State of Belarus and Russia. The scale of the joint venture will depend on these conditions. If they are available, then we are talking about building eight industrial enterprises in Belarus and Russia within two to three years.”

The proposals include the introduction of special labels for the end products (bicycles and motorbikes) and their primary components (for instance, bicycle frames). It will allow enabling equal competitive conditions in Belarus and Russia in addition to preventing unfair competition. The sides are also in favor of introducing a recycling fee for bicycles and motorcycles in order to favor domestic manufacturers, noted the MotoVeloZavod director.

Director General of the Russian group OOO Velomotors Alexander Nachevkin noted that the bulk of the world’s bicycles and motorcycles are made in three countries: China, India, and Vietnam. “We request preferences for domestic manufacturers in order to be able to develop this industry in the Union State of Belarus and Russia,” he noted.

Participants of the seminar are supposed to discuss the legal foundation for forming the common science and technology space of Belarus and Russia and the main instruments for implementing the social and economic policy of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. Participants of the seminar focus on problems inherent in the strategic management of innovations and ways to integrate national and regional innovation systems of Belarus and Russia. Participants of the seminar are busy studying the foreign experience of organizing and implementing innovative breakthroughs. They talk about avenues of cooperation in commercializing R&D results and technology transfer.

Members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, representatives of the Standing Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, ministries and government agencies of Belarus and Russia, the academies of sciences, representatives of the private sector, heads and research officers of leading research institutions and universities take part in the seminar.

The permanently open seminar was established in 2006 upon the initiative of members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia. The seminar traditionally gathers representatives of scientific circles, people in favor of Belarus-Russia integration, like-minded persons with regard to the development of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.
