Belarusian road construction companies invited to build motorway in Turkmenistan

MINSK, 10 May (BelTA) – Belarusian road construction companies have been invited to participate in building a motorway in Turkmenistan. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Anatoly Kalinin made the statement after the session of the Belarusian-Turkmen intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in Minsk on 10 May, BelTA has learned.

Anatoly Kalinin said: “Today we have agreed to advance our cooperation in transportation by rail and by road. The other party has suggested we should take part in the construction of an automobile road in Turkmenistan.” The official specified that the Turkmen delegation intends to visit the second Minsk ring road later that day.

Anatoly Kalinin said that the Belarusian side is interested in exporting more railway cars to Turkmenistan. In 2016 as many as 380 railway cars were exported to Turkmenistan. The matter was discussed during the session of the intergovernmental commission. “The other joint projects in the sphere of industrial production include lift sales. A major program for replacing old lifts has been sketched out in Turkmenistan this year. We will have to ship over 700 lifts to the country,” explained Anatoly Kalinin.

The deputy prime minister underlined that Belarus-Turkmenistan relations are developing dynamically. A total of about 90 agreements in various spheres have been signed since cooperation between the countries was established. In 2016 Belarus-Turkmenistan merchandise trade exceeded $120 million while the total trade was close to $300 million.

The eighth session of the Belarusian-Turkmen intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 10-12 May. Members of the Turkmen delegation are expected to also visit the train factory Stadler Minsk, the Minsk city mass transit system operator Minsktrans, the state enterprise National Center for Electronic Services, and the state corporation Belarusian Railways.
