Belarusian Railways gets 20 open-plan carriages from Russian TVZ

MINSK, 6 July (BelTA) – As many as 20 open-plan carriages made by the rolling stock manufacturer TVZ, which is based in Tver, Russia, have been delivered to Belarusian Railways, the Belarusian Railways press service told BelTA.

The carriages were delivered to the Minsk Passenger One Railway Station on 1 July. They will be used to provide railway transportation between Minsk and Moscow and between Minsk and Saint Petersburg soon. The delivery contract had been signed by the leasing company OOO BelVEBleasing and the Minsk branch of Belarusian Railways.

The open-plan carriages are designed to travel as fast as 160kmph. They are fitted with sliding doors at entrances and wider sliding doors in passageways between the carriages as well as an automatic door control system, air conditioners, environmentally friendly toilets, air and water purification systems, CCTV cameras, and fire alarms.

There are 54 berths in each carriage. Every passenger can use a personal power socket or USB sockets for charging mobile devices.

Corrosion-inert steel has been used for building the carriages to extend their service life up to 40 years.

Since 1998 the Russian rolling stock manufacturer TVZ has shipped over 90 carriages to Belarusian Railways as part of the rolling stock renewal campaign in addition to 57 carriage kits, which were consequently assembled by the Minsk carriage repair plant MVRZ.

The public joint-stock company (OAO) TVZ is part of the private joint-stock company (ZAO) Transmashholding, the largest manufacturer of railway rolling stock in the Commonwealth of Independent States.
