Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant now part of World Association of Nuclear Operators

MINSK, 22 May (BelTA) – The enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant is now part of the Moscow center of the World Association of Nuclear Operators. The relevant decision was made at an extraordinary general meeting of the organization in Siofok, Hungary, BelTA has learned. The relevant information is available on the official website of the World Association of Nuclear Operators.

The message reads that the procedure of joining the World Association of Nuclear Operators includes two steps. First, the extraordinary general meeting of the organization has to make the relevant decision. Second, the decision has to be approved by the governing board of the organization.

The document on membership of the enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant in the World Association of Nuclear Operators was signed by Director General of the enterprise Mikhail Filimonov and Ladislav Stepanek, president of the extraordinary general meeting. The head of the Belarusian enterprise said he was confident that the membership would contribute to the development of the nuclear power industry in Belarus.

In turn, Vasily Aksenov, director of the Moscow center of the World Association of Nuclear Operators, assured representatives of the new members of the Association that they will always receive aid and support on the part of WANO members and the secretariat. He also said he expected openness in interaction and long-term beneficial cooperation.

Apart from Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant the extraordinary general meeting approved WANO’s Moscow center membership of the Hungarian company MVM. Now the World Association of Nuclear Operators comprises 22 organizations in 13 countries across the globe.

The World Association of Nuclear Operators unites all the enterprises in charge of operating nuclear power plants across the globe. The Association encourages the sharing of the best practices so that members of the Association could work together for the sake of reaching highest safety and reliability standards during the operation of their nuclear power plants. WANO’s establishment was prompted by the Chernobyl catastrophe in 1986. WANO was officially founded by the founding assembly in Moscow on 15 May 1989.
