Belarusian MTS signs exclusive roaming agreement with China Mobile

MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) – The Belarusian mobile carrier MTS has signed an exclusive roaming agreement with China Mobile, the MTS press service told BelTA.

Top executives of the two companies met in the MTS HQ in Minsk. During the meeting representatives of the Belarusian and Chinese mobile carriers presented their companies, discussed strategic priorities, approaches to forming product lineups and launching services, approaches to customer service and the assimilation of new technologies. Close attention was paid to the LTE technology.

China Mobile is the world’s top mobile carrier and serves over 800 million subscribers. Apart from that, China Mobile boasts expertise in building LTE networks and creating useful 4G-enabled services. The fourth-generation mobile communication technology was high on the agenda of the meeting. MTS Director General Vladimir Karpovich and China Mobile CEO Yue Li discussed the importance of innovative solutions based on the LTE technology as well as prospects of development of fourth-generation networks in each country and the consumer demand for high speeds.

The high demand for mobile broadband Internet access based on 4G technologies prompted the signing of the bilateral agreement on reducing prices for international roaming services. Thanks to the agreement MTS subscribers will be able to use 4G Internet access in China at lower prices. The same favor has been extended to China Mobile clients in Belarus.

As part of the agreement as from 1 June prices for outgoing calls from China to Belarus will be reduced for MTS subscribers by 25%. Prices for outgoing calls to other countries will be reduced by 31% while the cost of Internet traffic will be reduced by a whopping 98%.
