Belarusian MPs participating in session of OSCE PA’s Committee on Political Affairs and Security

Belarusian MPs participating in session of OSCE PA’s Committee on Political Affairs and Security

MINSK, 2 July (BelTA) – A delegation of the Belarusian parliament to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is taking part in a session of the Committee on Political Affairs and Security in the videoconference format within the framework of the 29th annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, BelTA has learned.

Chairman of the International Affairs Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Andrei Savinykh said: “We will hear out a report on the situation in the OSCE region and on the situation in various countries and even regions. There are plans to discuss a multilateral approach and the role of parliamentary structures in building up trust and mutual cooperation. This is why in my speech I would like to raise an important issue: why today representative democracy, which has earned a good reputation all over the world, gets replaced with tools of direct democracy or, I’d even say, street democracy? Why is an unorganized mob, which is controlled by parties unknown, given the right to speak on behalf of a nation and disorganize the situation in one’s own countries?”

In his words, there are extremely important topics on the agenda. “Some time ago we assumed that color revolutions can happen only in countries with immature political institutions and state traditions. But the situation in the USA demonstrates it is far from it. This chaos can happen in any country,” the MP noted.

What parliamentarians can do to prevent the situation from getting worse will be discussed. “And even more so to prevent new divisive lines in Europe,” the MP added.
