MOGILEV, 11 May (BelTA) – The Belarusian company OAO Mogilevliftmash has started the establishment of a joint enterprise to make escalators together with Chinese partners, Mogilevliftmash’s Director General Boris Kovalevsky told BelTA.

The company has already started preparing the manufacturing site, with the necessary documents already in the pipeline. The specialists have already assembled the first escalator using primarily Chinese components. For now the company has mastered the production of the main metal frame for the escalator and the control board. The testing of the new escalator will begin soon.

Initially the project will be an assembly enterprise. Later on Mogilevliftmash intends to increase localization and start making individual components. “The creation of the new manufacturing division is determined by the market demand. Our customers, who buy elevators, would like to get other equipment as a set. It is more convenient for them if one company repairs and provides maintenance for the entire set of equipment. Moreover, the new products are in demand on the home market and foreign ones, including thanks to the vigorous construction of major shopping and entertainment centers, the construction and development of metro systems,” said the Director General.

Mogilevliftmash intends to fully commission the new manufacturing division in late 2015 in order to start batch production in 2016. Apart from that, the company has signed a contract with the Chinese company Shanghai Step Electric (a manufacturer of elevator control stations) for the sake of establishing long-term mutually beneficial cooperation in the sphere of elevator production. There are plans to use Chinese control stations as part of Mogilev-made elevators and sell them to third countries.

OAO Mogilevliftmash is the leading manufacturer of elevator equipment in the Commonwealth of Independent States. It offers over 100 basic models of elevators such as passenger elevators (from 225kg to 1,275kg), service elevators (from 100kg to 6,300kg), mixed cargo elevators, elevators for hospitals and custom-made elevators. The enterprise also produces elevator equipment and components, consumer goods and other products. The enterprise was founded in 1967 and re-incorporated as a public joint-stock company (OAO) in 2013.
